페이커의 경기에도, 전소연의 무대에도 아칼리가 있다. 누군가는 한순간에 게임의 흐름을 뒤집는 플레이를, 누군가는 날카롭게 내뱉는 랩의 운율을 떠올릴 것이다. 이처럼 같은 얼굴을 두고 기억하는 장면은 조금씩 다르다. 이번에는 아칼리가 페이커의 이름을 노래했다.
2019년 ‘GIANTS’ 이후 7년 만에 돌아온 트루 대미지의 ‘Know My Name’은 2026 리그 오브 레전드 월드 챔피언십 주제곡이자, 페이커와 T1이 함께 지나온 승리와 패배를 담은 헌정곡이다. 전소연은 다시 아칼리의 목소리를 맡아 익숙한 날카로움에 성숙함을 더하려 했다. 페이커는 자신이 누군가에게 ‘좋은 추억’으로 남기를 바랐다. 아칼리는 이 곡을 ‘하나의 다짐’이라고 전했다. 이미 알려진 이름도 무대에 오를 때마다 다시 증명해야 한다는 것. 이번 화보에서는 트루 대미지 아칼리에게도 직접 이야기를 들었다.
Akali is there in Faker’s games and on Soyeon’s stage. Some will think of a play that changes the course of a game in an instant; others, the cadence of sharply delivered rap. The face is the same, but the scenes we remember differ. This time, Akali sang Faker’s name.
Seven years after “GIANTS” in 2019, True Damage returned with “Know My Name,” the anthem for the 2026 League of Legends World Championship and a tribute tracing the victories and defeats Faker and T1 have shared. Returning as Akali’s voice, Soyeon wanted to bring greater maturity while preserving her familiar edge. Faker hoped he would leave people with “good memories.” Akali described the song as “a promise”: even an established name has to be lived up to every time you take the stage. For this editorial, we also heard directly from the True Damage’s Akali herself.

What do you think you have in common with Faker?
사람들은 늘 가장 중요한 순간에 주목하죠. 하지만 저에게는 실력을 갈고닦기 위해 매일 해나가는 작은 일들이 가장 중요해요. 새로운 아티스트의 음악을 들으며 영감을 얻고, 가사를 다듬고, 헬스장에서 몇 시간씩 땀을 흘리죠. 자신감은 매일 몸과 마음을 단련하며 스스로 얻는 거예요. 그래야 화려한 조명 아래에서 비트가 터지는 순간, 제가 무대를 찢어놓을 거라는 확신이 들거든요.
페이커 선수도 저와 같은 결을 가진 사람이라고 생각해요. 오랫동안 최고의 기량을 유지할 수 있었던 건 최고가 되기 위해 필요한 노력을 해왔기 때문이죠. 자기 관리도 철저하고, 긴 시즌 동안 일과 휴식의 균형을 지킬 줄 알아요. 저에게는 늘 어려운 부분인데, 페이커 선수를 보고 아리에게 저도 더 노력해보겠다고 약속했어요.
압박감이 커질수록 페이커 선수는 오히려 침착해져요. 경기가 아무리 불리해도 그런 상황을 수없이 겪어봤기에 어떻게 흐름을 뒤집고 승리를 가져올지 알고 있죠. 저도 같은 열정을 품고 있어요. 어려웠던 것들이 쉬워질 만큼, 오랫동안 자신을 갈고닦아야 그 경지에 이를 수 있다고 생각해요.
People on the outside always focus on the big moments, but for me, the most important moments are all the little things I do to hone my skills. I’m always listening to new artists for inspiration, working on my lyrics, and putting in hours at the gym. I earn my confidence by building up my mind, body, and soul every single day. That way, when the bright lights shine and the beat drops, I know I’m gonna kill it.
I think Faker is built the same way. He’s been able to stay on top of his game for so long because he puts in the work that it takes to be the greatest. He also has self-discipline. He can balance work and play over the course of a full season. That’s always been hard for me, but I promised Ahri I’d try to improve on that.
When the pressure is on, he stays relaxed out there. No matter how bad a series looks, he’s been there before, and he knows what it takes to pull out a win. I’ve got that same fire. You only get there by grinding so much for so long that the hard parts become easy.

What does “Know My Name” mean to you?
제가 생각하는 ‘레전드’는 한 번 얻고 끝나는 타이틀이 아니에요. 스스로 증명해서 얻어내고, 무대에 오를 때마다 그 자격을 다시 증명해야 하죠. 그래서 늘 기대를 넘어서는 모습을 보여드리고, 아티스트로서 성장할 새로운 기회와 가능성을 찾고 있어요. 페이커 선수 역시 ‘레전드’라는 타이틀에 안주하지 않고, 여전히 세계 최고의 선수라는 걸 증명하기 위해 노력하잖아요.
그런 의미에서 ‘Know My Name’은 승리를 자축하는 곡이라기보다 하나의 다짐에 가까워요. 결정적인 순간에 제 몫을 해내고, 확실한 발자취를 남기겠다는 다짐이요. 이름을 남기는 것만큼 어떤 음악과 흔적을 남기느냐가 중요해요. 결국 사람들의 기억에 남는 아티스트를 만드는 건 그런 흔적이라고 생각해요.
To me, being a legend isn’t something you are. It’s something you earn, and you have to keep earning it every time you get on the stage. That’s why I’m always looking for new lanes and new opportunities to defy expectations and grow as an artist. Faker has also never settled for just being a “legend.” He’s constantly fighting to prove he’s still the best player in the world.
In that way, “Know My Name” isn’t a victory lap. It’s a promise. We’re always gonna rise to the moment, make our mark. It’s not about the actual names on the track. It’s about the sound we’re leaving behind. That’s what makes an artist worth remembering.

What would you say when giving this track to Faker?
클래식 음악을 좋아한다고 알고 있어서, ‘Know My Name’ 같은 드릴 장르의 음악도 클래식과 닮은 점이 꽤 많다고 말해주고 싶어요(웃음).
사실 페이커 선수는 자신이 무엇을 해야 하는지 누구보다 잘 알기에 제 조언이 필요 없는 사람이죠. ‘신속하고 무자비하게’ 몰아붙이라고 말할 수도 있겠지만, 이미 ‘불사대마왕’이잖아요. 저만큼 승부욕이 강하다면 아무리 큰 성공을 거둬도 ‘이만하면 충분하다’고 생각하지 않을 거예요.
그러니 지금의 ‘불사대마왕 마인드’를 계속 품고 가라고 말하고 싶어요. 그 타이틀은 경쟁자들에게 발전의 원동력이자 도전장이거든요. 에코와 제가 늘 랩 배틀을 벌이는 것처럼, 서로 더 나아지도록 밀어붙이며 최고가 된다는 것의 기준을 높이는 거죠. 올해도 페이커 선수가 최고의 무대가 무엇인지 보여주고, 모든 경쟁자가 그 기준에 도전해 이번 월드 챔피언십을 역대 최고의 대회로 만들어줬으면 좋겠어요.
Well, I know he likes classical music, so maybe I’d tell him that drill songs like “Know My Name” actually have a lot in common with the classics (laughs).
But really, Faker knows what he’s doing and doesn’t need advice from me. I could tell him to be merciless, but he’s already the Unkillable Demon King. If he’s as competitive as I am, there’s no amount of success that would feel like “enough.”
So instead, I’d just tell him to keep embracing that demon king mentality. That title is a challenge that fuels his rivals to improve themselves and become worthy, like how Ekko and I are always rap battling. You push them to be better and raise the bar for what it means to be the best.
I hope Faker continues to set the standard this year, and that every competitor rises to his challenge to make this the best Worlds yet.

What was your first reaction to the song and music video?
많이 신경 써주셔서 감사했고, 그동안 쌓아온 유산을 떠올리게 하는 뮤직비디오라 감명 깊게 봤습니다. 이번 월드 챔피언십에서도 좋은 활약을 보여드리고 싶다는 생각이 들었습니다.
I was grateful for how much care and attention went into it. The music video brought back memories of the legacy I’ve built over the years, so I found it very moving. It also made me want to put on a strong performance at Worlds this year.
| Q. 플레이와 게임을 보는 시선, 무엇이 더 달라졌나요?
What has changed more over your career: your play or your outlook?
예전과 비교하면 플레이 방식과 게임을 바라보는 시선 모두 많이 달라졌다고 생각합니다. 메타와 새롭게 추가된 챔피언들에 적응하는 것도 중요하고, 플레이에서 좋지 않은 습관을 개선하는 것도 필요합니다.
Compared to the past, I think both the way I play and the way I view the game have changed a lot. It’s important to keep adapting to new metas and the many champions that have been added over the years, while also continuing to identify and correct bad habits in my own play.
| 아칼리의 진입 ‘각’을 찾는 감각은 경험일까요, 본능일까요?
Is spotting an opening with Akali a matter of experience or instinct?
많은 반복 연습을 통해 쌓인 경험에서 나오는 본능이라고 생각합니다.
I think it’s instinct that comes from experience built through a great deal of repeated practice.

What kind of player would you like to be remembered as?
많은 분에게 좋은 추억으로 남는 선수라면 만족할 것 같습니다. 나아가 그분들의 삶에 많은 도움이 된다면 좋겠습니다.
I’d be satisfied if people could look back on me as a player who left them with good memories. Beyond that, I hope that in some way, I can also have a positive impact on their lives.

| 페이커 선수의 이야기를 노래하는 건 어떤 의미일까요?
What did it mean to you to tell Faker’s story through music?
페이커 선수는 ‘리그 오브 레전드’에서 정말 대단한 선수이고, 같은 한국인으로서도 굉장히 자랑스러운 분이에요. 그런 분의 이야기를 담은 음악에 함께할 수 있다는 것 자체가 큰 영광이었어요. 한 선수의 서사와 그가 걸어온 여정을 음악으로 표현한다는 점이 의미 있게 다가왔고, 이런 음악을 만들 수 있어 정말 기뻤습니다.
Faker is such an incredible player in League of Legends, and as a fellow Korean, he’s someone I feel very proud of as well. It was an honor in itself to be part of a song that tells his story. I also found it really meaningful to express the long journey of a single player through music, and I felt genuinely happy and grateful throughout the process.
| 이번 ‘트루 대미지’ 아칼리는 어떻게 다르게 표현하고 싶었나요?
트루 대미지가 7년 만에 새로운 곡으로 돌아오는 만큼, 예전보다 한층 성숙해진 모습을 보여드리고 싶었어요. 동시에 아칼리 특유의 날카롭고 강렬한 느낌은 잃지 않으려고 했습니다.
Since True Damage is returning with a new song after seven years, I wanted to show a more mature side than before. At the same time, I also tried to preserve the sharp and powerful edge that is such an important part of Akali’s character.
| 페이커의 이야기를 가장 잘 담은 파트가 있다면?
Which part of the song best captures Faker’s story?
제가 맡은 파트가 이 곡의 유일한 한국어 파트인데, 그 부분이 특히 의미 있게 느껴졌어요. 페이커 선수는 한국을 대표하는 자랑스러운 e스포츠 선수이고, 라이엇 게임즈는 전 세계적으로 사랑받는 게임을 만드는 회사잖아요. 이런 글로벌 프로젝트에서 한국어로 랩을 할 수 있다는 것 자체가 영광이었어요. 무엇보다 한국인인 페이커 선수의 이야기를 한국어로 직접 노래하고 풀어낼 수 있다는 점이 가장 크게 와닿았습니다.
My part is the only section of the song performed in Korean, so that felt especially meaningful to me. Faker is a Korean esports player we can be incredibly proud of, and Riot Games is a company whose games are loved by players around the world. Being able to rap in Korean as part of a global project like this was a great honor. More than anything, the opportunity to tell Faker’s story through Korean lyrics really resonated with me.

What’s your message to the fans who have waited?
트루 대미지의 새로운 음악을 오랫동안 기다려주신 분이 정말 많다고 알고 있어요. 그분들이 있었기에 저도 다시 한번 이런 소중한 기회를 얻었다고 생각합니다. 진심으로 감사드려요. ‘Know My Name’도 정말 열심히 준비했으니 많은 사랑과 관심 부탁드립니다.
I know that many fans have been waiting a long time for new music from True Damage. I feel that it’s thanks to everyone who has continued to support and wait for us that I’ve been given another opportunity like this, and I’m truly grateful. “We’ve shown Faker as the ‘final boss’ in our Worlds films several times. We were really keen to show a very humanizing side to him.” For Elie Fielding, Creative Director of League of Legends, that was the starting point for “Know My Name.” The aim was to explore the burden and pressure that the exceptionally composed player has carried as a superstar athlete, and in doing so, deepen his connection with fans.

The initial plan was a bold, exuberant track, but as the team explored Faker’s story, they felt it also needed to acknowledge the difficulties he had overcome. The music and visuals focus on grit and resilience in the first half, giving the confidence and triumph of the later section greater meaning.
트루 대미지의 음악적 정체성은 북미 스포츠 문화에 뿌리를 둔 스포츠 앤섬을 구상하는 과정에서 자연스럽게 어우러졌다. 엘리 필딩은 힙합과 스포츠가 공유하는 서사와 주제에 주목했고, ‘GIANTS’에서 영감을 얻되 음악과 비주얼 모두 한층 강렬하고 거칠고 대담하게 표현했다고 설명한다.
True Damage’s musical identity found a natural place in an anthem rooted in North American sports culture. Fielding points to the storylines and themes that hip-hop and sports share. Drawing inspiration from the “GIANTS” era, the team pushed both the music and visuals to be harder, more intense, and bolder.
